I AM LISTENING…

Fareham - Past, Present and Future.

30th April 2020

Fareham East    Wallington    Fareham Council    Crime    Drugs

Evidence of civilisation in Fareham dates back to before AD43 when the Romans arrived and established a crossing point of the River Wallington.
Shortly after, a Roman Fortress was built at Porchester to defend the strategic Portsmouth Harbour.

Fareham was quickly identified as an area of significance with its protected harbour. Traces of tools and arms from the Iron Age have been found, and the town was first documented in the Norman era as 'Ferneham'. The Bishop of Winchester historically located his mills in Fareham Creek near the Fareham Viaduct. Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton who occupied Titchfield Abbey in the late 16th Century, was a Patron of William Shakespeare, and a dedicatee of his Sonnets.

With this history and culture, by the 20th Century, Fareham was well established as a major market town. This soil is rich from past influences and today is considered and voted to be the premier place to live in Southeast England.

The 21st Century Borough of Fareham, nestled in the county of Hampshire, is self-sufficient to provide its residents with work, good education and excellent quality of life. Hampshire has developed as a strong county due to the trade of coal and timber, growing shopping and trading, an airport, large sea ports and harbours and a Naval dock. A lot of councillors have contributed great work at County and Borough level to help achieve this, which is why today I, Stephen Ingram, also want to take this opportunity to serve the Borough of Fareham and participate in maintaining its good name.

Being a resident here for almost 25 years, I am wholly aware of current issues that prevail. I have already identified areas of improvement, which I would work on to continue improving Fareham for its residents. With the local elections now postponed until May 2021, I hope to be selected to be a Conservative Councillor Candidate. If fortunate to be chosen, I have robust plans to target the two main concerns combatting drugs and crime.

I have two sons, one of whom was born with a severe mental disability. I understand and support anything we can do to make our residents lives more comfortable. I am very supportive of an approach of family responsibility, instilling ethical values, but also that Fareham should help channel this good energy. I want to influence school-aged children positively, set up more youth clubs, establish more opportunities, guidance and training for youngsters to work under appropriate mentors, and thus eradicate the dependency on drugs and crime.  I want to develop a sense of achievement and pride in our younger generation for positive change.

I want to work to reduce crime, target anti-social behaviour and create a feeling of safety in our towns and centres.

I also think we should be highlighting the cultural and historical importance of Fareham within the county of Hampshire. Fareham is a great place to live. It is somewhere that you belong and feel proud to be a part.
