Keeping up with the Spirit of Christmas

23rd November 2020

Fareham East

Christmas like so many other things in 2020 is going to be different this time around. With Christmas just around the corner, the Council is doing its best to keep the Christmas spirit as lively as any other year, albeit in a different way.

Although the Christmas lights switch-on event, which is a favourite in Fareham, was cancelled due to the pandemic. The Mayor of Fareham, Cllr Mrs Pamela Bryant, held a special ceremony to keep up the tradition and turned on the town's Christmas lights, in a different way from her home. Christmas lights in the town centre will remain on throughout December, so those visiting Fareham for essential purposes will still be able to enjoy them.

Another interesting addition this year is Fareham's Virtual Christmas Market 2020. The virtual Christmas Market will give you a glimpse into some of the stallholders and local businesses that would have otherwise been a part of the Christmas market. So you can continue the festive shopping throughout December.

If you are a local business and wish to be a part of the Virtual Christmas market drop in an email to leisure@fareham.gov.uk with the name of your business, your product details, the link to your website and a photo of your products.

As we have stood united before to help those in need, now is the time to stand strong together again but for some positive cheer by keeping the festive spirit alive. No matter in what way we celebrate, it is important that we look at it with positivity and celebrate this time of the year with a cheer rather than being upset about the things we cannot do. After the year we have had so far, this is the time of the year that will bring some happiness and cheer to our lives!
