New National Restriction to Contain the Virus
5th November 2020
COVID-19 cases, once again, are seeing an upward trend across the UK and many other countries. We are fortunate to be able to predict and watch our neighbours who are ahead of us, and we know that not acting can be devastating if not contained at the right time. Numbers are rapidly increasing, and as a community, we must support all efforts to control the spread of COVID further.
On an individual basis, the easiest way to support this effort is to stay at home, maintain ideal social distance, and only travel when essential - this remains the most effective way to help control the spread and save lives. A simple effort on our part to reduce day-to-day contact in groups with other households can help a great deal in reducing the spread of the infection.
The new National Restrictions set forth by the Government have been effective from Thursday, 5th November and will last until at least Wednesday 2nd December for four weeks.
What is expected of you in this current situation?
You can refer to the UK Government Website for detailed information about the 'New National Restrictions'.
Depending on the situation at the end of 4 weeks, the Government plans to switch to a regional approach, based on the data. These measures are binding on everyone, and the Police and other authorities have powers to give fines and break up gatherings wherever necessary. We urge you and your friends and family to download the NHS COVID-19 App to remain updated on the latest guidance.
The one thing positive amidst this situation has been the vibrant and incredibly active voluntary sector that we have been fortunate to get the support of across the Borough of Fareham. These individuals and communities have worked tirelessly and continue to do so to provide vital support to our vulnerable residents. I would like to sincerely thank each and every one of you, for the support that you all have selflessly extended in times of need.
The response truly has been overwhelming, and while we have more than enough volunteers as of now, there could be a need for more in case the situation changes going forward. 'One Community' will be having a 'standby' list of volunteers, who can be contacted should the need arise. If you wish to enrol yourselves in this list, please email your details to One Community at vss@1community.org.uk.
Once again, heartfelt gratitude, to each and every one of you for all the support! I would also remind everyone to strictly adhere to the new policies so that we come out of this crisis sooner, safer and stronger than ever before!
