I AM LISTENING…

Portchester Remembrance Service 9th November 2019

9th November 2019

Fareham East    Wallington

I had the honour of attending the Portchester Remembrance Service on Saturday. It was attended by a large number of people who wished to show their respects to members of our armed services who sacrificed so much to give us the freedom we enjoy today.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
For the Fallen, by Laurence Binyon

The service was led by Rev Ian Meredith, the Vicar of St Mary’s Church. The MP for Fareham Suella Braverman read a poem ‘Who are these men’ written by Jodie Johnson aged 11, and Mayor Pamela Bryant recited the poem ‘Flanders Fields’ by John McCrae.

The service included a moving address by Councillor Roger Price. Prayers and hymns were included in the service as a fitting tribute from the people of Portchester.

It was great to see so many young people involved in the service and showing their respect.
