I AM LISTENING…

Stay Home, Protect the NHS and Save Lives as the Lockdown Rules get Tighter

7th January 2021

Covid19

As the new and highly infectious coronavirus variant is causing havoc, single-day cases are reaching a record high with each passing day. This new strain of the virus is unfortunately highly transmissible in comparison to the earlier version. With the alarming rate at which the new virus is spreading, it is important that each and every one of us abide by the new lockdown rules. Only strict adherence will ensure that we stay safe and help reduce the spread of the virus as much as possible.

To put it simply, unless drastic measures are employed by each and every one of us and unless we do something different, it is unlikely that the new virus strain will be contained. The result will be an increase in infection rates, hospitalisations and, regrettably, deaths. It is a disheartening return to a state of affairs that we have already suffered through previously, just when we as a community were just getting back on our feet.

However, as we have a new and powerful strain of the virus to combat at this point, we need to again stand united to fight this alarming situation as one. The new year brings new hope and as more people receive the vaccination the number of people infected will begin to drop. Until we give the vaccine the opportunity to take effect and the numbers stop rising, it is all the more important that you follow the new lockdown rules strictly. Please maintain the social distancing guidelines, wash your hands regularly and wear masks when required. It is also important that you take care of your health during this lockdown period. Eat healthily, exercise regularly, stay indoors and stay safe!

Hands, space and face are the three main aspects to remember. Wash your hands, maintain distance, and always cover your face to stay safe. I urge you to get well acquainted with what you can and cannot do during this new lockdown. Please visit the Government website for detailed updates and rules.

Always remember, even if you feel completely healthy you may still have the virus and simply be asymptomatic. While this may not have any impact on you personally, if you end up transmitting the virus to someone else it could cost them dearly. It is in the best interests of you and those around you that you follow the rules of the lockdown seriously.
