Transitioning into Phase II

In the previous post, I spoke about Government grants and the efforts taken by the Government to help our Fareham residents during these difficult times. Fareham council, at the same time is also trying its best to extend support in every way possible to make it easier for our residents to move forward. I want to thank everyone for the efforts made to adhere to the Government's advice.

As a community, we have faced some the most difficult times in recent history, the initiative taken by many who have reached out to help others and the supportive attitude towards overcoming the situation as a community has been worthy of applaud and makes me feel proud.

However, this is just the beginning of the corrective journey, and as we slowly transition into the next phase, we need to still move ahead collectively as a community with the same resilience and positive attitude. Our Government has planned a well thought out pathway for controlling the virus. Your continued support will go a long way in helping the containment of the spread of the virus. With continued progress, there will not be a reason for the restrictions to be in place for longer, nd we will overcome these difficult times much sooner.

For better economic stability, the following measures have been undertaken to encourage steady upward growth and economic mobility:

Future Fund amounting to £500,000 million
• High-growth businesses
• UK-based companies engaged in diverse sectors
• Technology
• Life sciences
• Creative industries

Local Authority Discretionary Grants Fund (LADGF) amounting to £1,019,000
Small and micro-businesses not eligible for the following:
• Small Business Grant Fund
• Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Grant Fund

Communities Funding

High Street Fund amounting to £50 million
To help with the safe reopening of the following:
• High streets
• Retail spaces

Transport Injection - £4,316,000
To make safer roads for pedestrians and cyclists. Initial £250 million grant was announced to fast-track plans for cycling and walking lanes. £25 million out of this is for cycle repairs, to encourage people to resume cycling.

The Government has also provided guidance for employers, employees and self-employed to help them understand how to work safely during COVID 19. It applies to those currently open and will guide the operations of those who are allowed to open. To help you decide which actions to take, you need to carry out an appropriate COVID-19 risk assessment, just as you would for other health and safety-related hazards. This risk assessment must be done in consultation with unions or workers.

What are the objectives and measures laid out in this guidance?
• COVID 19 risk assessment and sharing the results of this assessment
• Preventive measures to minimise risks
• Considerations about who should go to work
• Guidance about protecting clinically vulnerable and clinically extremely vulnerable individuals
• Social Distancing norms at the workplace
• How to minimise the contact resulting from visits to stores or outlets
• Cleaning and hygiene before reopening and once open
• Reducing transmission due to contact with objects in the store and fitting rooms
• Personal Protective Equipment or PPE
• To reduce the number of contacts each worker has
• Avoidance of unnecessary work travel

It is imperative that each and everyone thoroughly understands the COVID-19 related safety procedures. I urge everyone to go through all the relevant guidance documents released by the Government before resuming work and reopening to make sure that we go ahead collectively in the right direction.

I remain open to comments and suggestions as to how we can serve you better in these unprecedented times. For updates, please follow my social media channels and stay in touch. I am listening.
