The NHS has launched a free app which is one of the fastest ways to see if you’re at risk of coronavirus. It is a great initiative that alerts you about your exposure to someone who has been affected. If you have been near other app users who may have tested positive you will be alerted immediately. I strongly recommend each and everyone makes use of this app so as to protect themselves from getting infected and unwittingly infecting others.

The most important thing in an adult’s life are our children. Over the last year our children’s lives have changed dramatically. They are being asked to do things differently and have lost contact with many of their friends and family. This disruption is having a massive effect on how they see things and what they relied on in the past has disappeared. InTouch Team Leader Steve Ingram reports that he has been contacted by many residents who are asking how to deal with the changes in their children’s lives.

The hospitality business has taken the hardest hit due to the Covid situation. While we were just coming out of the worst phase post lockdown, we had to go into another similar phase due to the spread of the new strain of the virus. Pubs and restaurants are bound to take the longer route back to normality compared to other sectors that have been affected by the lockdown.

As the new and highly infectious coronavirus variant is causing havoc, single-day cases are reaching a record high with each passing day. This new strain of the virus is unfortunately highly transmissible in comparison to the earlier version. With the alarming rate at which the new virus is spreading, it is important that each and every one of us abide by the new lockdown rules. Only strict adherence will ensure that we stay safe and help reduce the spread of the virus as much as possible.

The government had earlier planned quite a few relaxations pertaining to the Covid-19 rules for Christmas. A month ago, Prime Minister, Boris Johnson announced that families would be able to form Christmas household bubbles.

Looking at the current scenario, however, the Prime Minister has announced tighter COVID-19 restrictions in an effort to curb the spread of the new virus strain that has hit some parts of the country.

COVID-19 cases, once again, are seeing an upward trend across the UK and many other countries. We are fortunate to be able to predict and watch our neighbours who are ahead of us, and we know that not acting can be devastating if not contained at the right time. Numbers are rapidly increasing, and as a community, we must support all efforts to control the spread of COVID further.

Support to local traders and small businesses has become our priority which gave birth to the “Shop Local” and “Eat Local” campaign. The Mayor of Fareham and the Leader of Fareham Borough Council have been trying to encourage residents to support local traders through this campaign.

While a number of residents have already been using local shops considerably more during the lockdown we hope that this habit of shopping locally continues to see a positive upward trend. When you shop locally you are helping your community grow and ours is a community that has a lot to offer. There are boutiques, specialist stores, restaurants, cafes and coffee shops, hairdressers, and so much more.

As we slowly start venturing out from the safety of our homes, we need to do this in the most careful manner possible. Following the guidance offers two benefits. Ensuring that our collective time and effort spent distancing and in isolation in the past few months was not futile, but will also help us to successfully overcome the situation while gradually easing back into our routines at the same time.

Evidence of civilisation in Fareham dates back to before AD43 when the Romans arrived and established a crossing point of the River Wallington.
Shortly after, a Roman Fortress was built at Porchester to defend the strategic Portsmouth Harbour.

Fareham was quickly identified as an area of significance with its protected harbour. Traces of tools and arms from the Iron Age have been found, and the town was first documented in the Norman era as 'Ferneham'. The Bishop of Winchester historically located his mills in Fareham Creek near the Fareham Viaduct. Henry Wriothesley, 3rd Earl of Southampton who occupied Titchfield Abbey in the late 16th Century, was a Patron of William Shakespeare, and a dedicatee of his Sonnets.

Far too often people use the word HERO to describe achievements when it is not deserved.  Our NHS staff are risking their lives every day to protect our nation from coronavirus. Winston Churchill said, “Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.” An incredibly appropriate quote in describing the people who are fighting against this deadly virus.

First of all, I hope you will join me in hoping for the speedy recovery of our Prime Minister Boris Johnson. Like so many others, he is now in the outstanding hands of our very own NHS. We wish him, and everyone else affected by this disease a speedy recovery.

As is the theme of all my posts, we must get through this crisis together. When this passes we have many domestic and global issues that will require our attention and our unity as we heal the wounds of the past and restore the Great Britain that we are.

Stay at home! It is important that you avoid going outside other than for absolute essentials such as for food, health reasons or essential work. If you can manage to work from home, it is a sensible decision, and a government requirement to do so.
